Koleksi Jakarta Platform Officially Launched

Jul 1, 2026

The public gained access to thousands of collections from museums under the management of the Jakarta Provincial Department of Culture through a single digital platform.

The platform features thousands of cataloged and digitized collections from the Jakarta History Museum, Museum of Fine Arts and Ceramics, Maritime Museum, Textile Museum, Wayang Museum, Joang ’45 Museum, Benyamin Suaeb Museum, Onrust Museum, Taman Prasasti Museum, MH Thamrin Museum, and Betawi Museum.

The launch of Koleksi Jakarta is part of the commemoration leading up to Jakarta’s 500th anniversary. The initiative is a collaboration between the Jakarta Provincial Department of Culture and Southeast Asia Museum Services (SEAMS), supported by funding from the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP).

“Approaching Jakarta’s 500th anniversary, Koleksi Jakarta is more than a digital archive. It is a gift for future generations—a living record of objects, stories, and the city’s identity, carefully preserved and made accessible to all. The United States is proud to support this journey through the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation,” said U.S. Embassy Jakarta Spokesperson Jamie Ravetz.

Koleksi Jakarta is the implementation of the Koleksi Kita initiative, which has been underway since 2024. The program includes the documentation, cataloging, and digitization of museum collections using the Getty Research Institute vocabulary standards to strengthen collection management and expand public access to cultural heritage.

The launch also coincides with preparations for Jakarta’s 500th anniversary, leveraging digital technology in managing and disseminating knowledge about museum collections.

“This is an important step in advancing the digital transformation of museums in Jakarta. Museums are not only storage spaces for historical objects, but also serve as learning centers for the community,” said Head of the Jakarta Provincial Department of Culture, Mochamad Miftahulloh Tamary, during an interview session.

Koleksi Jakarta also offers a thematic exploration experience based on 17 curated themes, allowing objects from different museums to be presented within a unified narrative context.

“Jakarta has more than 30,000 objects, but these stories have long been scattered. Through Koleksi Jakarta, objects with related narratives are connected within a single thematic storyline,” said Dyah Pandam Mitayani, Education and Design Specialist and Co-Founder of SEAMS.

For example, the Revolution & Independence theme features the painting The Bride of Revolution (Museum of Fine Arts and Ceramics), Revolution Wayang (Wayang Museum), and the USS Renville vessel (Joang ’45 Museum), each representing different aspects of the same historical period.

“This is just one of the 17 available themes. Through this approach, objects from different museums can be viewed side by side, even though they were previously stored in separate locations. Visitors can explore the collections thematically,” Mitayani added.

Through Koleksi Jakarta, the public now has a new way to access and engage with Jakarta’s cultural heritage within a single integrated digital platform.

The Koleksi Jakarta platform is now accessible at www.koleksijakarta.id.
