The Jakarta Culture Office (Dinas Kebudayaan Provinsi DKI Jakarta) has officially joined the Indonesian Museums Documentation Project, a collaborative initiative supported by the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) and coordinated by Southeast Asia Museum Services (SEAMS).
With the involvement of 11 public museums under the Jakarta Culture Office, the project aims to enhance collection documentation and digital access to objects that represent Jakarta’s diverse cultural heritage. Participating museums include:
1. Jakarta History Museum
2. Museum of Fine Arts and Ceramics
3. Wayang Museum
4. Textile Museum
5. Maritime Museum
6. Onrust Archaeological Museum
7. Joang '45 Museum
8. MH Thamrin Museum
9. Taman Prasasti Museum
10. Benyamin Sueb Museum
11. Betawi Museum
“Through this collaboration, we hope that Jakarta’s important museum collections will be better documented and accessible to broader audiences through digital platforms,” said a representative from the Jakarta Culture Office.
The project will soon launch a series of activities including training, collection digitization, and online exhibitions to reinforce the role of museums as centers of education and cultural preservation in a global context.
The initiative also includes a pilot project with the National Museum of Indonesia, focusing on the documentation of colonial collections from Aceh and South Sulawesi.
